IEICE Electronics Express, Vol.14, No.9 publishes a paper "CMOS image sensor with pseudorandom pixel placement for jaggy elimination" by Junichi Akita, Kanazawa University, Japan. This quite an old idea has been implemented all the way to a silicon and its advantage has been demonstrated:
