ABC News Online: Beijing orders North Korean-owned businesses to close by January under latest UN sanctions
China has ordered North Korean-owned businesses to close, cutting foreign revenue to Pyongyang under the latest set of UN Security Council sanctions imposed over its nuclear and missile programs.
Beijing is Pyongyang's main trading partner, making China's cooperation essential to the success of sanctions aimed at stopping the North's pursuit of weapons technology.
But despite long standing as North Korea's diplomatic protector, this time China has gone along with the latest penalties out of a growing frustration with leader Kim Jong-un's Government — especially after Pyongyang tested its most powerful nuclear weapon to date and flew missiles over Japan.
