Business Insider/SCMP: China's new missile destroyers will guard its aircraft carriers — here's how they stack up to the US Navy

* China is building advanced warships to defend its expanding fleet of aircraft carriers, specifically an unnamed next-generation carrier reportedly still in the works
* The Type 055 guided-missile destroyers are said to be the world's second most powerful destroyers
* These powerful warships still trail behind the Zumwalt-class destroyers of the US Navy

China has launched four Type 055 guided-missile destroyers in the past 13 months and is building four more to meet its need for advanced warships

They are Asia's largest and most advanced destroyers, designed to guard China's first home-grown aircraft carrier and meet the navy's demand for modern warships.

Moving at top speed to build up a global blue-water navy to safeguard its maritime interests, China has launched four Type 055 guided-missile destroyers in the past 13 months — two simultaneously in July — and is building four more.

The home-built warships — which analysts have called the second most powerful globally — are to serve as the primary escorts for People's Liberation Army aircraft carrier strike groups.

WNU editor: When I first started this blog the Chinese Navy was only a minor Navy. Ten years later .... they are the second most powerful Navy in the world. One can only imagine where they will be ten years from now.
