A Russian woman who admitted to being a secret agent for the Kremlin has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Maria Butina has been jailed since her July 2018 arrest and will get credit for time served.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan also ordered Butina deported after she completes her sentence.

She was in the U.S. on a student visa, and she did what most foreign students do .... get to know the country, learn how the political and social system works, and to make friends. What happened to her can be applied by other countries who have American students in their country doing the same thing.
