Update: Trudeau seeks support from allies at G20 amid China-Canada dispute (City News)
WNU Editor: The Canadian Prime Minister's office has been pushing for such a meeting for weeks .... Trudeau looks to meet with Chinese president at G20 (CBC). I know that the Canadian Prime Minister is not going to get his meeting. To put it bluntly, the Chinese do not respect the Prime Minister, as I pointed out in this post three years ago .... China's Foreign Minister Demanded A Meeting With Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau (And He Got It!!!!) (June 3, 2016), and the unofficial Chinese government policy right now is to "snub him" .... China Is Snubbing Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau (June 13, 2019). But there are opportunities for Prime Minister Trudeau to talk to President Xi at the G20. Leaders always have the opportunity to approach other leaders at the G20 outside the conference hall during breaks. That is actually where a lot of good diplomacy and discussions take place. I know that President Xi is not going to approach Prime Minister Trudeau, but will Prime Minister Trudeau take the initiative to approach President Xi? I would advise him to do so, but my bet is that he will not.
