Ottawa Citizen: Canadian Navy finds “heavy” Russian presence in Black Sea – Who would have thought?
A couple of Defence Watch readers have pointed to a new Jane’s defence magazine article titled, “Canadian frigate encountered ‘heavy Russian presence’ in Black Sea.”
Jane’s was quoting the captain of HMCS Fredericton: “During its Black Sea mission, Fredericton encountered “a heavy Russian presence”, Commander Trevor MacLean told IHS Jane’s via a phone interview from the ship,” the magazine noted.
But one Defence Watch reader pointed this out: “So a Canadian warship sails thousands of nautical miles into Russia’s back yard – into a body of water which borders on Russia and where Russian naval forces have operated for hundreds of years – and our navy wonders why it encountered a heavy Russian presence? They’re kidding right?”
