The Hill: Obama, Biden to skip Fidel Castro's funeral

President Obama and Vice President Biden will not attend the funeral of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, the White House said Monday.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters to “stay tuned” as to which top U.S. officials, if any, would attend the funeral, scheduled for Dec. 4.

Top Republicans have urged Obama not to attend the ceremony for Castro, 90, who died over the weekend.

WNU Editor: I did not expect Russian President Putin to attend .... he knows that most Russians have nothing but disdain for the former Cuban leader .... and there was/is no political gain for him to go. I did expect Canadian PM Trudeau to go .... to show the same respect to the Castro family as did Fidel Castro showed to the Trudeau family when former PM Pierre Trudeau (and father of Justin Trudeau) passed away a few years ago. I guess he and his aides made the calculation that there was nothing for him to gain politically if he went .... but a lot of blowback if he did go.
