Daily Mail: Incredible photos show the moment a Russian jet intercepted US aircraft during a live training operation over the Baltic Sea

* A US Air Force B-52H, part of a formation of US aircraft, was intercepted by a Russian jet on Friday, according to the US Defense Department
* Photos from the department show the Russian Su-27 Flanker flying closely to the American planes before peeling off
* The US aircraft are part of ongoing BALTOPS exercises, an annual live training operation between several NATO Allies

The US Defense Department has released dramatic photos of a Russian aircraft intercepting American bombers over the Baltic Sea.

The photos show a Russian Su-27 Flanker intercept a formation of US Air Force aircraft, including a US Air Force B-52H, 2nd Bomb Wing, during BALTOPS exercises on Friday.

Most intercepts are considered 'safe and professional,' according to Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis.
