The Hill: Trump approves disaster declaration for New York

President Trump late Friday evening approved a disaster declaration for New York, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States.

Trump's order opens up federal support for state and local recovery efforts in areas affected by COVID-19, the White House said in a statement.

It also gives New York residents who have been affected by the illness access to crisis counseling.

WNU editor: I have friends who live in New York City and across the Hudson River in New Jersey. All of them stocked-up in the past month to stay inside for a month or two. Among some of my former colleagues who work in the Russian mission at the UN in New York City. I have just learned right now that with the exception of one, they all left about 2 weeks ago to back home.
