U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch Will Recuse Herself From The Hillary Clinton Private Email Server Case

New York Times: Lynch to Accept F.B.I. Recommendations in Clinton Email Inquiry, Official Says

Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch plans to announce on Friday that she will accept whatever recommendation career prosecutors and the F.B.I. director make about whether to bring charges related to Hillary Clinton’s personal email server, a Justice Department official said. Her decision removes the possibility that a political appointee will overrule investigators in the case.

The Justice Department had been moving toward such an arrangement for months — officials said in April that it was being considered — but a private meeting between Ms. Lynch and former President Bill Clinton this week set off a political furor and made the decision all but inevitable.

Republicans said the meeting, which took place at the Phoenix airport, had compromised the independence of the investigation as the F.B.I. was winding it down. Some called for Ms. Lynch to recuse herself, but she did not take herself off the case — one that could influence a presidential election.

WNU Editor: As I had mentioned yesterday .... Should Bill Clinton Have Met Privately With The U.S. Attorney General While His Wife Is Under FBI Investigation? .... if it was not for a local news reporter at the airport this meeting would never have been reported. As for the meeting itself .... as I had said yesterday .... it was an incredibly bone-headed move on her part to agree to it. But considering the fact that it was President Obama who appointed her to the bench to be a federal judge .... thereby making her a somebody .... Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch probably felt obliged to meet him. But now that she has recuse herself from the case .... I am willing to bet that aside from the negative publicity that is swirling around her, she must be feeling relieved. As to the political fall-out from this case .... Donald Trump has not even waded into yet .... so I do expect fireworks in the next few days. On a side note .... I would love to be the fly in the room when Hillary Clinton discusses this with her husband.
