A retired U.S. navy captain recommends setting off powerful explosive charges near America’s latest aircraft carrier to make sure it can survive the rigors of combat. The U.S. Navy wants to put off the so-called “shock test” until the next carrier enters service, but advocates believe that, with the threat of big power war looming, the more the Navy knows about its latest aircraft carriers the better.
