Are Things Getting Better?

WNU Editor: I understand that every leader in the world is trying to project a positive image. President Trump is not the only one. But among the people I trust and know, they are all telling me that a vaccine is at least a year away if not longer (not before the end of the year). They are also warning me that it will probably not be 100% effective. They are now something like 20 different strains of the virus, and it is continuing to mutate. But even if it is only 40% or 50% effective that will be a positive development. It is all about minimizing risk. It is why I now wear a mask in public. I want the odds in my favour.

As for numbers starting to show some positive signs. I do see that in Europe, definitely in Asia, and in some parts of North America. Summer and sunlight do limit the spread of viral diseases, and we will probably see this outbreak burn itself out in the months to come in the northern hemisphere (at least that is what I hope for). Unfortunately, this virus has taken a grip in the southern hemisphere, and it is ravaging many countries. Using history as my indicator, that tells me that by the end of the year what is in the southern hemisphere will migrate to the northern hemisphere. This is where border controls, 14 day quarantines, tracing, etc., become very important. If this is not done, there is then no question in my mind, this is going to be a very rough winter for all of us.
