Bloomberg: Top US, Russian Generals Speak Amid Fears of Nuclear Escalation 

US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley spoke with his Russian counterpart Monday, agreeing to keep lines of communication open amid growing fears that Russia may further escalate its war in Ukraine. 

Milley and Valery Gerasimov, the chief of the Russian general staff, discussed “several security-related issues of concern,” the Pentagon said in a statement, in the first call between the two since May. The statement said further details wouldn’t be provided.

WNU Editor: It looks like this is a follow-up discussion after talks this weekend between the Russian Defense Minister and the US Secretary of Defense. 

My gut tells me that a deal is in the works. A freeze of the conflict zone for the winter? Maybe permanent? I hope so. 

But if my speculation is true, the hard part will be the West telling a lot of Ukrainians that enough is enough.
